IBU GIVES NIGERIA DEADLINE TO HOST THE GWR FIGHT

Due to appeal for Nigeria to still host the Guinness World Record (GWR) Fight, the International Boxing Union (IBU) on the 22nd of June, 2013, granted a final extension time for Nigeria to demonstrate interest and good faith in hosting the GWR fight. The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) is expected to complete all details for the record breaking fight card to be held in Nigeria. The time is running out right now. Will government meet up or fail this deadline will determine if peace and progress is still ever achievable again in Nigeria by this government?

The numerous benefits of Nigeria hosting the GWR Fight cannot be overemphasized. At this crucial time that Nigeria is confronted with nemerous security challenges and other social problems, there is need for government to pay keen attention to host the GWR Fight and use the event to promote unity, peace and progress in Nigeria. Nigeria can take advantage of this historic event in the world to discourage crime and all manner of terrorism.

Already, the IBU has contacted all the parties and fighters that will come to Nigeria, and they anxiously await the official confirmation from the IBU of the fight occurring. This will make them finalize to come to Nigeria and be a part of history. For Nigeria to host the GWR Fight, the primary requirement is for the FGN to pay the IBU Sanctioning Fees of USD$I Million to be transferred and received by the IBU not later than 5 o’clock pm New York time on 7th of June 2013.

The secondary requirement is the FGN preparing such condusive and secured atmosphere to host the world. Considering the insecurity challenges confronting Nigeria, this is avenue for the government to build more cooperation of the people and improve unity, peace and progress while all persons and parties involved will have their place iin history forever.

What are the consequences of government failure to host this fight?
The challengers for the WBF/IBU World Title will move to fight the next available contender for the title. According to Don “Moose” Lewis, the spokesman of IBU, the failure will puts Champion Bash Ali in a position of not having another opportunity to fight for the IBU title until spring of 2014. Upon government failure to pay, the IBU requested that Champion Bash Ali should give consent at 5:01 pm New York time on 7th of June 2013 for the body to to immediately accept the standing offer of €10Million plus twenty percent (20%) of pay-per view revenues from the promotion group in Germany for the WBF/IBU Cruiserweight World titles.

That means that the fight will no longer hold in Nigeria this year. The fight will be post-poned to hold in Germany next year. The historic occassion will be used to promote sports in Germany. Just imagine, even at this time that Nigeria needs sports most to engage more youths. Cosidering the age factor, the greater opponent against Champion Bash Ali is time and not the man opposite him in the ring. Therefore, it is the hope of everybody that he is successful in this final push to fulfill not only the dream to get Nigeria to host the FIRST Guinness World Record bout in Africa, but to also establish Sports Academies and a Sports equipment manufacturing factory in Nigeria.

Fellow Africans, please, let it be on record that all efforts are on ground right now to encourage the government of Nigeria to use all possible avenues to engage our youths positive but have decided to throw this one in the wind. Let it be on record too that Champion Bash Ali have exhausted all cordial avenues to make the FGN host the world and make the historical bout a success.

The consequences of FGN failure to host this bout and encourage sports development to discourage all manner of crime and terrorist acts will make more youths especially not believe in Nigeria. See Nigeria government the number one dream killer that is not ready to change.

The Way Forward?
Apart from the IBU Sanctioning Fees of USD$I Million to be received by IBU latest on 7th of June, there are other cost and local preparations involved which require that the government inaugurates the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the fight and mandate them with adequate fund to succeed. All these can still be done on or before Friday, 7th of June, 2013. And failure of the government to do the right thing is an expression of its desire to see Nigeria destroyed by encouraging more youths to be idle and become political thugs and satanists to rig elections and terrorize the nation to enrich the pockets of criminals.
